Day 8 ~ Thursday 8/3 ~ Medical Report

Update on Megan ~ Although she had slept well, Megan awoke exhausted after having had the asthma attack last night. The severity of the attack without a nebulizer was extremely high and it's been the worse attack she ever experienced. It was triggered by noxious fumes in our hotel hallways when we returned from our dinner out on Wednesday night. It was an honor for me to love on her through the attack and although I saw the panic in her eyes as she struggled to get even the smallest amount of air, the Lord gave me great peace as I held her upright, prayed for the Lord to rain down good breaths upon her, and rubbed her back upward to help expel the carbon dioxide. Melissa was such a calm trooper with the hot, wet washclothes that were standing in for the missing nebulizer. All of the rest of our team stood down the hall, praying without ceasing, and personally experienced Megan's healing as the sounds of her breathing were soothed.

Megan slept in this morning to help regain her strength and started her school day during the second class period and participated in the singing activity session. We are so relieved that this attack is behind us and are joining Megan in catching our breath as we process the many implications.

Update on Steve~ Steve slept well, too and is beginning to feel well - the red patches and swelling are starting to subside ~ He is sitting up in bed writing note cards to his students ~ holding court much like the Apostle Paul must have when he was under house arrest.

The risks associated with Steve’s tissue infection in his foot have been very high. Given the severity of the infection, the pain and tenderness in his foot, and his previous experience ~ a quiet day in bed is what was needed (not that he was too happy about that!)

This morning Steve shared with me how when this happened before, he was just returning from a missions trip to Haiti and the problem developed as he traveled home to Denver and he was in the hospital for three days on four very heavy antibiotics via IV as the doctors hit him with everything they could to fight the progression of the infection to sepsis. This morning, Steve pondered how blessed he was to have had that experience because he learned how important it is to stay off his foot then, a lesson he would not have applied had he been needing to learn it in China!
  • In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express. And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints in accordance with God’s will. And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose … What, then, shall we say in response to this? If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all – how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things?

Update on Brittany ~Brittany also slept well but still came to this morning tired from her rough day yesterday. The pain which Brittany had experienced was debilitating. She came back strong to participate in all of the teaching and activities, but was tired.

Thank you deeply for your prayers
of healing and protection!
Please continue to raise us up!!

I pondered last night as I prepared for bed that Megan, Brittany, and Steve have each experienced these same medical problems before China… so please we must remind ourselves that they weren’t caused by this beautiful Country of Contrasts.

And it has been so great and wonderful to see them all up and around today.

Our God is an Awesome God.
