Fruita / Grand Junction ~ June 2007

I thought a trip to Fruita was a bit of a lark, right up there with going to Cheyenne for the weekend (ha ha!) But alas, we had a great adventure to the western border of the state in mid-June! We hiked Colorado National Monument, rafted the Colorado River, and enjoyed a great amusement park (that they would have been Trey, Sean & myself while Darold, Robyn & Dave explored the wine country :)

We started at a private RV park but then moved to Fruita State Park
because it was so lush and beautiful ~ full hook-ups, too!The rocks and formations of Colorado National Monument
are the same as our beloved Lake Powell ...
we had a great time hiking around, exploring tunnels,
and watching movies on the formation and erosion of this topography ...In the evenings, we'd take dinner down to the lake in our campground,
the boys would swim, Jocko would play, and we'd have a great meal
with incredible vistas and sunsets ... sky blue pink at its finest! We took a really fun river float in our own self-guided rubber raft and rubber kayak.
The water was calm enough for everyone to enjoy kayak time and
we floated, ate, drank, and laughed the afternoon away ...Grand Junction has a very nice amusement park that the boys and I enjoyed
while Dave, Robyn & Darold explored and tasted the fruits of the
Palisades wine country just up the street ...It was a great long weekend and we are thinking that
this may be a nice place for our neighborhood camping adventure in 2008.
Big thanks and loves to Robyn & Darold!
