Ryan's first month in Kenya was serving the slum of Kibera, the largest in the world. The population during the day was estimated at 700,000 with 1.5 million at night. The workers would walk the 20 minutes to Naroibi for work. It is a "squatter slum" with much garbage and open draining sewage.
The AIM team had a small house where the 13 gals and 5 guys would sleep at night. Due to the violence in the slum, they were not outside after dark. Their days were spent with an hour of personal time with the Lord, working at the school AIM sponsors in Kibera, lunch of PB&Js and watermelon, and developing relationships springing from their door-to-door evangelism and drimes (drama / mimes). Sunday church services were 5-7 hours with great participation from members and visitors preaching & testifying.
